Variations persisted in analyses that were adjusted for obesity, baseline behavioral scores, and home income and in analyses which were restricted to kids in whom the obstructive rest apnea syndrome resolved. The nice reasons for this racial disparity are unclear. Possible explanations include distinctions in parents’ anticipations, coping mechanisms, or perceptions of their child’s behavior and the current presence of risk factors for behavioral complications unrelated to the obstructive rest apnea syndrome. Children with more severe cases of the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome showed larger absolute improvements in polysomnographic results with early adenotonsillectomy than with watchful waiting around, although, as a group, they were less inclined to display normalization of the results than were children with less severe instances. At the ultimate end of 2014, BioMed Central and other publishers alerted the international Committee on Publication Ethics to new types of systematic attempts to manipulate journals’ peer-review procedures. According to a declaration published on COPE’s internet site in January 2015, these efforts to hijack the scholarly review system were apparently orchestrated by agencies that first helped authors write or improve their scientific articles and sold them favorable peer evaluations.4 BioMed Central conducted a thorough investigation of all their recently published articles and identified 43 which were published on the basis of evaluations from fabricated reviewers.
